Take the Granite Wildflowers Self Drive in springtime (roughly mid/late August to October) and enjoy a leisurely drive through some of Western Australia’s best wildflower country. Wildflowers displays are subject to seasonal variations and weather conditions so before heading out, we recommend you contact the relevant Visitor Centre for this region.
Day 1: Perth – Merredin
(351 kilometres/4 hours)
Travel through historic York and see the landscape transform into flat plains with spectacular spring wildflower displays along the roadside. Visit Quairading, Narembeen and Bruce Rock on your way to Merredin.

Day 2: Merredin – Perth via Mukinbudin
(464 kilometres/6 hours)
Head north to the 2,500ha reserve at Billyacatting Rock, home to a stunning variety of wildflowers, then continue on to Talgomine Rock to see the spectacle of the everlastings. Visit Mukinbudin’s rare species garden and view donkey orchids at Elachbutting Rock before travelling on to Beacon and Billaburning Reserve to see one-sided bottlebrush and yellow-spotted donkey orchids. Be sure to stop at Koorda and Wongan Hills, where you’ll find many species of orchids, before heading back to Perth.
